The Vernon Township Building Official serves as the head of the Building Department, which encompasses building, planning, zoning, and code enforcement functions. The Building Official is responsible for reviewing building plans, conducting on‑site inspections, and working closely with inspectors, contractors, and property owners to ensure compliance with all applicable codes and ordinances.

 

As an employee of Vernon Township, the Building Official is charged with the administration and enforcement of the township’s building, zoning, and safety regulations. This role ensures that development within the township is safe, compliant, and consistent with local standards and community goals. This position also works as a liasion to the Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals.

The Vernon Township Code Enforcement Officer is responsible for ensuring that properties, activities, and development within the township comply with all applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations. This role supports the safety, health, and overall quality of life in the community by addressing violations, responding to complaints, and working proactively with residents, businesses, and contractors.

The Code Enforcement Officer conducts site inspections, investigates potential violations, and provides guidance to help property owners understand and meet township requirements. When necessary, the officer issues citations, coordinates corrective actions, and works with the Building Official, Planning Commission, and other township officials to ensure consistent and fair enforcement.

Through communication and enforcement, the Code Enforcement Officer helps maintain the township’s standards for property maintenance, land use, zoning compliance, and community appearance.
